Wasted chance in oldtrafford

premier-leagueCurrent premier league champions, Manchester united, wasted the opportunity to catch up with league leader chelsea.  Gabriel Agbonlahor’s first half header secured a first win for Villa at Old Trafford for 26 years. Very disappointing day at theater of dreams “old Trafford“. Wonderful incoming pass from right winger (played from left) Young found agbonlahor and finally net. Villas have created many more chances in the first half, actually united have created much more chances than AV. Short on targets were high but none of them found the net.

Manunited first home defeat in premier league since march last year. Problems has been too many injuries in defenders group. Out of the injured players Ferdinand is likely to return on 19th December from calf muscle strain, Oshea with Thigh Muscle Strain by january , Johny evans with calf muscle strain by january, Nevile groin strain with no date to point out. Manchester united had a really frustrating day, all their chances did not count to goals, if so it could have been 4 – 2 atleast. Wayne Rooney’s strike found under cross bar, vidic’s header found last defender’s leg with few inches to make a count, couple of on target shorts from carrick saved by AV goaly. Couple of open chances created to Valencia too did not count as well. Villa’s first win of any sort against United for 10 years was fully deserved and means that Martin O’Neill’s side have beaten United and Chelsea already this season.

The defeat was United’s fourth of the campaign and a particularly frustrating one after the Reds had seen Chelsea drop two points earlier in the day at home to Everton. Chelsea’s recent defensive fragility continued as they dropped their first home points of the season to extend their run of games without a win to four — a sequence which has seen Carlo Ancelotti’s side leak 10 goals. Chelsea’s problems stemmed from some comedy defending, although Ancelotti was not unduly concerned by the present insecurity at the back.

Interestingly EPL point table has constant difference of 3 points between No1 position (Chelsea) and No2 position (Manchester united) and No3 position (Arseanal FC).United should fire up few highfy wins to catch chelsea and take a lead from there on. Arsenal is a big threat as well. Liverpool loosing streak continues, it has created chances for Aston villa to think big on champions league dreams. Six of the day’s fixtures ended in draws.

Sir Alex Reactions,

“We were camped in their box for a lot of the second half and had some really good chances. We only needed to take one to get us back in the game and it might have changed from then on; it was just one of those days when it wouldn’t go in. Hopefully we can put the Villa game behind us and get the result we need on Tuesday against Wolves.”

Ancelotti Reactions,

“We played with intensity and good concentration for 90 minutes and created lots of chances. Sometimes it happens that you draw but when you play like we did you deserve to win.”
