Champions league knock out stage entrants

Champion_LeagueJust like any other year, 2010 champions league has plenty of surprises. The last sixteen teams are almost finalized.

LIVERPOOL OUT: First team to give a big shock is Liverpool, They don’t walk alone derby partner Everton is active to give company in europa league. 2005 champions league cup winner are out. Viola victory crashed liverpool out of champions league last 16. The road to Madrid, where the Champions League final is due to be played, now becomes the road to Hamburg – where the new Europa League will reach its conclusion. Captain Gerrard reactions,

Of course it’s disappointing, we played fantastically well tonight and despite getting three points we don’t progress,” he told Sky Sports 2.

“Hopefully now we’ll be in the Europa League so we’ll try to win that. The main prize has gone and to be playing in the Europa League is disappointing but we have to accept that, move on and try to win that competition. The only consolation in this is if we go on and win the secondary one.”

Top two teams from 8 different groups qualify for the final 16.

Rules for pre-quater knock out games are as follows,

a) Clubs from the same association cannot be drawn against each other.

b) The winners and runners-up of the same group cannot be drawn against each other.

c) The group-winners cannot be drawn against each other.

d) The runners-up cannot be drawn against each other.

e) The runners-up must play the first leg at home

In accordance with above stated rules An english club against another English club in pre-quarter is not possible. Chances of Juventus or Inter Millan or Real Madrid or AC Millan or Olympiacos or porto or Lyon against Manutd is very high. Injury hit Manchester united should be ready for this do or die matches.  Same is the case for other group leaders Chelsea and Arsenal english football clubs. Finalist in the last few years and local rivals both Chelsea and Man united want to take champions league trophy back to England.

Looking forward to analyze champions league games in every stage and write my view. Road to Madrid is not that easy. I aware of it, and of course all soccer clubs of Europe knows better.
