PARSIS’s Meaningful custom

My recent official trip to Mumbai had few challenges and many learning as usual. One such learning was about “crimination center of parsee community”. The original emigrated community from Persia. Different words has been used to describe them are persis Parsee. 1000 years ago emigrated community have integrated themselves into the Indian society while simultaneously maintain their own customs and tradition.

I happen to know about one such custom “TOWERS OF SILENCE” — a traditional place to give final homage to the dead one. As per their tradition dead body will be taken to Tower of silence where corpuses will be quickly eaten be the vultures. The reasons given for this practice is EARTH FIRE WATER are sacred element and should not be defiled by the dead. As part of the process the dead body will be cleaned, undressed and taken to a special place “A WELL” by selected people. Look out the custom in a different way i.e. “Even after death, feed your flesh to other creatures”. Be an active part of the food chain. A employer is come from the word Employe-e. You as stand-alone men or women are nothing. We as a society with common consensus make an active world. Lets have this society little bigger “OUR MOTHER EARTH” where in each and every creature has a responsibility to help other at least in food chain.

One of my close friends once told me that all our activities, behavior, social bonding and etc are based on our ethnicity; He has done his PhD on psychology from yells university USA. He is a very knowledgeable person in his field, I admire him very much. This mumbai visit showed one aspect of a community Parsee. Like their custom I also admire considerable contributions to the society from parsis. To name a few Members of TATA, godrej, Wadia group, physicist homi J. Bhaba, and many more …
