Mumbai “City of Verticals”
Mumbai one of the few metropolitan city in India, I call it as “The city of verticals”. The actual mumbai city has very limited space with limited room for major developments, but our intelligent contractors figured out a way to make space for the dwellers. They developed living space with vertical expansion rather than horizontal. With less ground space strengthened with strong foundation and underground work builders develop very huge structures; word huge here has a relative meaning .i.e for house apartment 40 floors is huge.
I have visited many high raise apartments in mumbai, on an average big apartments has 25-40 floors, in each floor with 4 –8 individual houses. You can imagine building is like stacked match boxes, parking space mostly under ground or automated stack parking system.
- For a metros it saves lot of space
- Lesser the ground space lesser the money involved on land procurement.
- Society buildings, staff apartments have greater scope in this expansion
- Mainly the child life get spoiled, child never get exposed to open environment
- One way Security compromised in other way more secured than individual home
- In some apartments additional parking lot cost more than 30L INR. Builders make major chunk
All these flat owners use at least one worker for their household activity like cooking cleaning etc. these living population have to work for optimal salary in the same area where rich crore pathy resides. They dwell in unauthorized places and develop slums. Politicians use this Vote bank. They entertain these slums more than IT corridor projects. They give ration cards, electricity, water supply to slum. Instead politicians should make proper shelter for them and organize things as part of metro developments.
