Group policy editor

It’s a feature of Micro Soft Windows NT family of operating systems. The policy settings are stored in GPO (Group policy objects). Group policy uses administrative template files to describe where registry-based policy settings are stored in the registry. Group policy control your computer local policy by two modes one with the use of Computer configuration to set policies that are applied to computers regardless of who logs on to them. Administrator use the user configuration in Group policy to set policies that are applied to user regardless of which computer they log on to. Standard and extended options can be configured in the GUI.

Go to START -> RUN -> type “gpedit.msc” this will allow you to access the GUI of gpi policy editor. You need to me a administrator user. Your whole look of windows operating system with various security features can be customized be using this Group policy editor.

Example:

Follow example will help you to disable the AUTO play option in your Disk Drives/Folder. In a hacked PC an intruder changes the default settings such as making AUTO as the default option on Disk Drive option. You need to use Right CLICK indtead of normal ENTER. Following steps will allow you to disable the AUTO options in right click.

  • Select Enabled
  • Select All drives
  • Click OK
